Phantasy Star Collection (Saturn): Raja and Shess

This piece from Phantasy Star Collection (Saturn) is very similar to another also found in the collection's galleries. In addition to the full body stock drawings used for promotional material, we see some small sketches of each character here also. Unfortunately, these sketches are not presented in larger versions in these galleries. Raja and Kyra received an understated representation in this collection. Kyra is also named "Shess" here. That is one of the more radical name changes in the series.

I actually like the name Shess.. Hell Kyra coulda been named Moosal for all I care and she'd still be one of, if not my favorite characters in this game.

One of the sketches is of Raja eating something. Is it just me, or are there are a lot of images of Raja eating and drinking?

It does seem to come up a lot. I guess Raja must have a really healthy appetite.

And still manages to keep his slim figure. What's he eating with, btw? Chopsticks or a fork?

Personally, I can't tell what he's using there. It looks sort of like both... the picture is just too small for me to make it out.

That sounds like the most awesome name ever.

I must have missed this part about Kyra being Shess!! Gonna have to look into that more.

That bit about Raja eating and drinking in art... Perhaps the concept artists tried to see him as someone more normal. Other Dezolians so far had been seen as something "alien", with their own culture, and a behavior different from humans' (and Motavians). I say this based only on PS II.

If this Dezolian was going to be a member of the party, the development team would need to see him as such. Part of his personality would also appear on those pieces of art. And I understand PS: The end of the millennium is filled with character illustrations all the time, so they needed to prepare for that, too.

True that Raja has a lot of illustrations showing him eating or drinking ! In the Compendiul, here in Phantasy Star Collection and maybe in other publications !
