Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

This group portrait gives us, and the original Phantasy Star IV game staff, a look at the height of each character relative to the others. You may notice Raja and Kyra are missing. According to Phantasy Star: Official Production Compendium, our favorite Esper girl lacked a solid design at this point this drawing was created, while the Dezorian priest had not even been added to the game cast yet. If you compare this to other pieces, you can also see that several of the shown characters, including Alys, Rune, and Wren, are represented in early designs that were altered before the final stages of the game.

It's a pity they didn't include Raja; he would have towered over a certain Esper and put him in his place. :wink:

For some reason I didn't think Hahn would be as tall as Rune--actually, he looks a teeny bit taller than him

And I thought Gryz would be at least as tall as Chaz. Ah well!

Thanks to a comment bretlin made in another thread, I've been looking at this image a little more closely this morning. The perspective might be playing a little trick that is throwing off the apparent height of a few characters - mainly Hahn. If you look at their feet, you can see the characters are not all standing side-by-side. Hahn is a little farther back than Rune, for instance. Rune is supposed to be about two inches taller than Hahn.

Bumping up this former Image Of The Day!

This is a nice shot of all the gang together, except for those two that are missing of course. Interesting theory about the position they are standing in possibly having something to do with how tall they look here.
