Phantasy Star Collection (Saturn): Holt's New Friend

This one of several pages of storyboards from Phantasy Star IV production documents included in the Phantasy Star Collection - Saturn image gallery. Some of them detail scenes that were not used in the final game, but this is not such a page. On these storyboards, the introduction of Rika is plotted out. Just as in the game, Holt introduces her to Chaz and his party. Chaz seems rather surprised to see her. I suppose he never expected that someone might still be inhabiting a facility that was abandoned by Palmans a thousand years before this.

Since I haven't played PSII at that time, I found the scene amazing.

I remember seeing this scene the first time I played PSIV- I think I was about 10? I could tell Chaz was feeling a little different, but my juvenile mind didn't register "Love at first sight" which I think they were going for.

The suprised look on the document here makes me wonder if they may have originally thought that couple as just friends.... *Plots to steal Rika from Chaz and Xander*
