Phantasy Star Collection (Saturn): Drama CD Young Chaz

The main story of Phantasy Star Memorial Drama CD is set three years prior to Phantasy Star IV. During the flashback to that time, a younger Chaz appears. Although Chaz is not the only character to appear in both the flashback and "present" (relative to Phantasy Star IV) portions of the story, he is the only one with any changes to his appearance between both portions.

The orphan boy survives on the streets as a pickpocket and robber. One fateful day, he steals the purse of Nei. She pursues the thief to reclaim her property. This sets them both on a path to adventure in search of Nei's secret origins. Although Chaz has yet to meet Alys at this point in his life, that fateful meeting is not far away. His future mentor is already on his trail when this story begins.

Why are his pants nearly at his armpits?

I've always wondered about that myself. Maybe really tall pants were a popular fashion when this was drawn? It throws off the picture, though. The pants make his legs look twice as tall as his torso.

Very interesting art with a very young Rudy/Chaz. The story told in this Drama CD is great too ! When you read the translation, it's a very touching story...
