The character design for Chaz is a good example of the amount of detail the staff put into developing the world of Phantasy Star IV. Note the asymmetrical armor, at the chest, shoulders, and forearms. A design of this type was very uncommon among RPG characters back in the early 1990s. His belt is also functional, with pouches and bags to hold basic items and meseta. We even get a look at a common sword design. Most illustrations of Chaz with a sword seem to include Elsydeon, so that is a refreshing change.

I like the way that the designers drew armor on Chaz. So many RPG heroes (Like FFX's Tidus) don't have it--and I can't help but wonder if that's practical for them.
