Chaz and Rika may be one of the most common romantic pairings brought to mind when thinking of Phantasy Star IV, but these sketches use a different angle. Chaz's depiction here is that of a younger boy who had yet to met his future mentor, Alys. This is how Phantasy Star IV's designers envisioned Chaz to look three years prior to the game, when he was the ringleader of a gang of young thieves. When this era of his life was portrayed in Phantasy Star Memorial Drama CD, he was redesigned. Contrasted with the somber young man is a very happy glimpse at his future love.

Rika is always happy. In that picture, it looks like she's laughing at him and he's quite annoyed about it.

That's one of the cutest picks of Rika that I have seen. She looks very happy there and obviously something has tickled her funny bone, so to speak, as she is having a real good laugh.

Chaz on the other hand looks very dour and almost mad. His clenched fists add credence to that illusion also. He does look very young there too.
