Peter Jackson rejoins "The Hobbit"

Postby Thoul » Wed Dec 19, '07, 11:25 pm

Fans of the Lord of the Rings movies will be glad to hear that the director, Peter Jackson, is back on the project.
Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached agreement to make J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit," a planned prequel to the blockbuster trilogy "The Lord of the Rings."

Jackson, who directed the "Rings" trilogy, will serve as executive producer for "The Hobbit." A director for the prequel films has yet to be named.

Jackson was previously off the project entirely because of lawsuits against New Line Cinema. He had claimed they didn't pay him all he was due for the Lord of the Rings films.

That's good news. I don't know that much about the guy, but he did pretty well with the other 3 Lord of the Rings movies, so I think he should be around for the others as well.

Producer? That's no good! He needs to be the director again. I'm not sure about the two movie thing. Hobbit is just one book, so I wonder how they'll divide it up and if they will add new material?

I wasn't sure what topic to post this in and decided this one may be just right. It is something I found on the "Gandalf" character possibly being in the new LOTR movie, etc.:

I do hope McKellen gets the role. It just wouldn't be the same without him. He did a great job in the LotR films and having him in the Hobbit would truly connect them together.

"The Hobbit" has a new director - it's the same guy who directed the "Hellboy" movie.

So, Hobbit fans, what do you think of this news - is it good or bad?

I've seen Hellboy movie and it was very good, I think, so I think it might be great news. Agree or disagree???

I'm not really familiar with his work. I did enjoy Hellboy, but this is a different kind of subject matter. I'm sure he can do a great job with Hobbit, though.

I'm not sure. On the one hand, Jackson and his wife writing is great - it'll help tie it into the Lord of the Rings trilogy even more closely. I'm not sure how good of a writer the director is, though. Hopefully it all works out there.
