Halo and BBC News error

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Wed May 30, '12, 12:40 pm

In a rather unique news story, it seems the BBC News had a logo from the Halo video game as what was supposed to be the UN Security Council logo:

However, upon reading the article, it seems this is not the first time this mistake has been made by others also.

I wonder how many video game fans caught the mistake, lol?

Well, at least they owned up to it and corrected later broadcasts. A mistake like that could happen to any one. You can be sure whoever was responsible for choosing the image will be more careful if they're allowed to select any in the future.

You can think it's not so bad, but that means that journalists on one of the most impportant news channel in the world get their info just googling and copy-pasting.

It was easily corrected because even (and especially) under-cultured people know the game, but imagine what can be caused on more important subjects...

Yes, it is fortunately that this is a relatively minor issue that brought it to attention. Hopefully the news organization will have their people pay more attention to their sources in the future. There's nothing wrong with a news channel Googling info on an area they're unfamiliar with, IMO, but they should make sure anything found that way is accurate before putting it on television.
