New Sega RPG - the next Phantasy Star?

Postby Thoul » Fri Aug 14, '09, 6:21 pm

Sega of Japan has created a new teaser site for an upcoming RPG. The site is supposed to launch on August 20th, which will be Thursday. Some people are speculating that this might be a Skies of Arcadia sequel thanks to the wheel in the upper right.

What do you think, could Sega be expanding the Arcadia name to a series or is this more likely to be a new game? It could even be the next console Phantasy Star title. It has been almost three years since Phantasy Star Universe launched. The teaser site shows a character silhouette that changes when the page is reloaded; there are at least two individual silhouettes and a group of four. Some of the weapons the characters are using look a lot like PS style weapons - there even appears to be a set of claws.

Some new photos of Famitsu floating around the web confirm that this teaser site is for Phantasy Star Portable 2. The character silhouettes match up to artwork from of the PSP 2 characters in the magazine.

I never caught Phantasy Star Portable 1, so it's a little hard to get hyped for 2. How was Phantasy Star Portable 1?

It's a side story of Phantasy Star Universe. Has a couple of different possible endings depending on how you react to Vivienne's questions throught the game.

"Online play" was nothing more than a badly implemented authorized tunneling mode that was only accessible when the PSP is connected (via USB) to a PS3. Rumor has it that this title will actually have real online play, but will just have to wait and see.

US and EU versions of the first PSP game had the option to play download quests completely removed also.
