Non-PS character theme songs (and PS chars if you want)

Postby Wolf Bird » Thu Jun 24, '10, 3:55 am

So I was listening to my playlist at random today and I came across a song I love, and I realized something...here's the song, first.

Sky Is Mine-by Amorphis

From my world the sun faded
And the moon from my sky was gone with stars
I came home to a bleak room of sorrow
Forsaken house, place of grief, in solitude

I listened to my heart beating
The faint rush of my blood
I listened to my heart beating
The echoes from space

Something moving in the emptiness
Something drew me near
Someone told me of my future deeds
Whispered them in my ear

The sky stirred
The lights of space flared
Beneath my feet
The living earth started to breath

The sky is mine
This sword is mine
This fate is mine
This miracle, mine

From steel I made the master's sword
Cleaving stone, cliff, a mountain
From darkness I stepped
Onto the path of stars

I realized that song pretty much describes Ness from Earthbound and Lucas from Mother 3 nicely, but in different ways! For Lucas, the heavy metal style of the song doesn't fit at first glance, but if you think about how he grows up through the game and gains his courage, it sure does! And lyrics make a pretty good fit.

I also think it fits Ness from Earthbound quite nicely, possibly even better depending on interpretation. If you don't define the word 'grief' literally and just see it as more general stress, then this song is more or less Earthbound's story in general terms. I would think having a meteor crash in your yard and you find our you're destined to save the world is pretty stressful when you're a little kid. Plus, the line 'the living earth started to breathe' REALLY fits Earthbound's story.

Anyone else have a song that really fits a game character?

Nice thread CW

Now let’s see something for Akuma, where should I start… :p

Hell by Disturbed

Rrwoooaaaw!
Ahh, Ahhh
Burning now I bring you Hell!

Ahh, Ahhh
Oh, burning now I bring you Hell!

Read me tonight, when the warnings said leave a shudder upon you
Running from all that you feared in your life
Soul of the night, when the sun mislead paint a horror upon you
Marking the moment, displaying in my ghost of a life!
And I can't get round the way you left me out in the open
To leave me to die!
So how can I, forget the way you lead me through the path into Heaven
To leave me behind!

Now I can't stay behind
Save me, from wreaking my vengeance
Upon you, to killing more than I can tell
Burning now I bring you Hell!

Free me tonight, as the animal kings breathe their terror upon you
Caught in the moment, engaging in my
Bloodlust tonight, now I can't control my venom's flow
Get back from me demon, or be exorcised!

All my emotion and all my integrity
All that you've taken from me
All my emotion and all my integrity
All that you've taken from me

Now I can't stay behind
Save me, from wreaking my vengeance
Upon you, to killing more than I can tell
Soul of the night, I know
Now I can't stay behind
Save me, from wreaking my vengeance
Upon you, to killing more than I can tell
Burning now I bring you Hell!

I always felt the power in David Draiman’s voice along with the music went quite well with Akuma as a powerful character. Basically this song reminded me of how he hunts for fighters with enough potential to kill in battle.

It also briefly reflects heaven and not being able to control the venom’s flow. Kind of how Akuma was once a normal human but upon mastering the Dark Hadou fighting style he now lives only to fight. So yeah basically I think of this song as Akuma was once an average fighter but now he brings hell upon anyone who is in battle with him. The fight is all he lives for.

Well that’s’ how I interpret it each to their own I guess.

Very nice, Lucas. I would have to agree on David Draiman's voice and the song's lyrics go well with Akuma. That's a great song.

Well, I'm going to be really boring and pick a PS character, but I'll be back with non-PS characters as I think of them. (I'm thinking up one right now for a certain FFVII character I, erm, like a lot. )

The song is What Else is There? by Röyksopp, and the character is Neifirst. The lyrics are a little cryptic, but I see several elements of Neifirst in them. The flashlights, nightmares and explosions remind me of the "accident" at Biosystems and her resulting escape. The "road's end getting nearer," "no room where I can go," and "what else is there?" make me think she knows it's only a matter of time before she dies, and "we cover distance but not together" and "you've got secrets, too" is her dual personality and eventual split into two creatures. The part about given one wish describes making biomonsters through the aid of Mother Brain. She also questions her "maker" and the purpose of her life.

It was me on that road,
But you couldn't see me.
Too many lights out, nowhere near here.

It was me on that road,
Still you couldn't see me
And then flashlights and explosions.

Road's end getting nearer,
We cover distance but not together.
I am the storm, and I am the wonder,
And the flashlights, nightmares
And sudden explosions.

I don't know what more to ask for,
I was given just one wish.

It's about you and the sun,
A morning run.
The story of my maker,
What I have and what I ache for.

I've got a golden ear,
I cut and I spear.
What else is there?

Road's end getting nearer,
We cover distance, still not together.
If I am the storm, if I am the wonder
Will I have a flashlights, nightmares
And sudden explosions?

I don't know what more to ask for,
I was given just one wish.

Road's end getting nearer,
We cover distance, but not together.
I am the storm, and I am the wonder,
And the flashlights, nightmares,
Sudden explosions.

There's no room where I can go and
You've got secrets, too.

I don't know what more to ask for,
I was given just one wish.

(PS - The video is cool but distracting. I'd run it in the background and just listen to the song.)
