I found a little inconsistancy in PSII when I was looking over the game's complete script that I read on phantasy-star.net.
Nei and Neifirst are connected since they're the same being, right? As Nei is a part of Neifirst, splitting from her because she didn't like what Neifirst was doing. So if one dies, then so does the other. (or so I thought) But in the game it didn't happen like that.
So what does this mean? Is Nei dependent on Neifirst's existance, but Neifirst doesn't need Nei? Or is this simply the case of a bad translation by SOA?

I can't speak for the quality of the translation (I think we all know how unreliable those can be!), but from the script it definitely sounds like Neifirst can survive without Nei. There's no telling how long she would have been able to continue living, but Nei's death doesn't cause Neifirst to die.

Well, Nei is part of Neifirst's being. She basically lives through Neifirst, so she can't survive with out her. This seems to be implied by what happens in the off-chance that Nei actually wins the fight.
I'm guessing Neifirst is probably weakened somewhat by the death of Nei, it's not enough to kill her directly.

Yeah, Neifirst has to be able to survive without Nei.... since you can fight Neifirst with Nei already dead.
I never liked any of the explanations of the Nei/Neifirst relationship. There's the collective soul problem, but it only goes one way.... and that makes Nei a parasite that only lives off of a host, Neifirst. I'd rather they had just made Neifirst too hard for Nei to beat at all, and avoid the whole mess.

Exactly my thoughts. I can't say I care for their relationship, either... I had always liked the idea of Nei and Neifirst having at least some dependency on each other, but I suppose it does show that Neifirst wouldn't hesitate to kill Nei, even if she is a part of herself.

Well, I think Neifirst does have some concern for Nei. She doesn't fight back until Nei directly attacks her. Granted she does provoke Nei, but it's also a warning to what ends up happening.
