Purple Heart Day began on August 7, 1782 by General George Washington, (who later became the first President of the United States).
The Purple Heart Medal is awarded to ones who were wounded or killed during their service in the USA military.
The Purple Heart is a very beautiful Medal, I know this first hand as my own Father received one for his service in the United States Army.
