more space junk falling

Another big piece of space junk will soon be falling back to earth and as of now they have no idea when or where it will fall:

I think I'll have to take my steel umbrella if I go out this weekend :p

Speaking seriously, I think the space agencies should to something about the debris that may fall on Earth, either by destroying them before they fall, or to build some sort of automated vehicle that is able to disassemble or retrieve the objects that are polluting our orbit.
A person only sees and hears what he wants to see and hear and disregards the rest.

The story says this thing still has fuel in it and part of it was designed for Earth re-entry. This leaves me wondering why someone doesn't try to control the descent to some degree. I doubt they could actually land the craft, based on the article, but maybe they could at least increase how much of it is burned up in the atmosphere.
