More CG practice

Postby Xander » Thu Nov 18, '10, 7:27 pm

In an attempt to both pull myself from the depression left on me by monday's fiasco and to give you all some more Rika artwork (some of you won't stop bugging me about when I'll get my bikini Rika pic done!) I give you my latest CG colouring project. And also my current wallpaper. :p

And yes, it's based on lineart for an older drawing of mine. My 5th drawing to be precise. Because that's why I kept it after all. I even recall saying it somewhere once. :p I even went and used the same, albeit differently shaped, gradient for the background.

Anyway, for those who are curious or maybe looking to dabble in this stuff, I coloured it using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.
Being an older drawing, I did it differently back then. Most notably I didn't do any inking nor did I use the proper pencils, thinking soft B pencils were a good idea. Hence why the lines might be a little thick.

EDIT: Ok, I redid the hair and have re-uploaded the result. I can't believe I didn't get the colour right. But then I've not played PS IV in a while either. :D

Very nice, as always Xander. You did a great job with the black. I think her hair could stand to be a slightly darker shade. I know a lot of fan artists use the same shades of pink you have here, which is fine and all, but it just always reminds me that Rika's hair is a darker color than this in the game graphics.

I like the gradient in the background. It really adds some good emphasis to Rika as being the center of our view and draws the eye toward her.

And you know what? I have no idea why I do it this way. :D Though i'm thinking it's a habit I got into when I was using colouring pencils and was limited in choice. But it's a good point you make. I'll need to see about addressing it.

You're welcome. :D I need to do some more Rika art soon. Original characters are good and all, but figuring out artwork for them is hard sometimes.

She's as hot as a thermonuclear reaction here. I can't wait for more Rika art.

This is a great piece I can tell. The form, the quality, and the person it represents is just awsome. I love Rika as she's one of if not my most favorite PS character behind Gwyn. I won't say the drawing has no flaws cause I can tell theres a few wavy area's on her legs and arms, seems like a unsteady pencil but thats a majority of most artists. Thats the only flaw I can see but otherwise Xander this is a great piece of art. How do you work your CG magic anyways?
