Atari game search in landfill

Remembering the games of yesteryear.

Atari game search in landfill

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Thu Jun 6, '13, 4:31 am

These folks must be pretty desperate to plan on searching for old Atari games in a garbage landfill. Ewwwwwwwwwwww, is what comes to my mind. Even if they find the games, who would want to play with a video game that had been in a landfill for years???

My guess is that it's not so much about finding the games for the sake of finding them, but proving an old urban legend about the fate of the unbought ET cartridges.

What most people don't know about the legends of Atari's landfill dumps is that they weren't just dumped, they were also crushed with a steamroller then buried in a hole and covered with a cement slab.

Updating this topic. When I came online this afternoon I saw an article about this dig. It seems they have had it and they did find some Atari games and stuff:

Congrats to them on their find.

Wow! That is extremely, extremely interesting. I really had written this off as an urban legend, but it's neat to see that some wonders do turn out to be real!
