Anyone here celebrate " May Day " on May 1 every year? I usually tend to forget about it as it is not an official holiday here in the US, but it's still an important day to many. I found this link that tells more about the holiday, it's origins, etc.:

So, Happy " May Day " to everyone! :)

Yeah, about the only reason I tend to remember it every year is that we have a family member who has a birthday on May 1, so it's a little hard to forget because of that alone. :p

Also some more unofficial " holidays " celebrated on May 1 include:

Law Day:

Loyalty Day:

Labour Day:

Pardon my ignorance but I've never heard of May Day. Is there anything specific it's celebrating?

EDIT :

Lol nevermind. Somehow I looked past the link SS posted so I got my answer.

Never heard of it. I know of Labor Day of course, but I didn't know any one had it in May instead of September.

I use to celebrate May Day / Labours Day every year :) In Germany it is an officially part of the holidays. Usually means no school, no university, no work (of course, the hospital staff, police and other workers still have to do their job). The "classic" May Day (at least as far as I know) is celebrated with wandering and having a good time. Yesterday, I met with around 25 very close and good friends in the morning (10 a.m.) and we wandered about five hours through the beautiful forests and small hills. We pulled to "toy wagons" with us, loaded with drinks, and in the afternoon we had a nice barbeque party in the garden of a friend.
It is usually one of these days you can really look foward to, especiallys since you often have the chance to reunite with friends or familiy members.
