Mardi Gras / Carnival

Celebrating all those special times in each year.

Mardi Gras / Carnival

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Sun Feb 3, '08, 2:02 am

Mardi Gras festivities are being held this coming week in New Orleans. Anyone taking part in any of this year's events, or have you even been to Mardi Gras before?

I've never been there, and never plan to go, because it seems too wild for me.

I've never been and wouldn't go. I imagine it must be pretty dangerous, given all the people drinking and running wild there at that time.

Time for Mardi Gras and Carnival festivals not only in the USA but in many other places of the world too, including Brazil, so cheers to everyone celebrating these holiday festivals!

A lot of (young) people celebrate it here in France, in all the country (did you know that the translation of these two french words could be : shrove Tuesday ?It's what I found in a dictionary, to be honest ^^).
And to answer no I'll not cross the ocean to come to NO ;)

Stupid? Dangerous? Have you seen what happened here in São Paulo? That is what I'd call stupid and dangerous...

But no wonder that happened. The guys who were arrested for vandalism had already been arrested before for other crimes. And it is no secret that the "samba schools" are ruled by criminals, unfortunately.
A person only sees and hears what he wants to see and hear and disregards the rest.

I hadn't heard about that, so I Googled it. Yeah, I agree, that was a reckless action that lead to a very dangerous situation. Those involved likely had too much to drink... when a crowd turns into a mob, the result is never pretty.

I'd never heard this before either, so I looked up Shrove Tuesday, too. Shrove Tuesday is a religious day for eating pancakes before the fasting season of Lent. So this day has two completely separate types of celebrations. :wow_luigi: I learned something new today.
