oooh, very interesting theory! That's a rather extreme way to get out of an arranged marriage but it works. It makes Sari's anger seem very misguided if she never knew about Lena's role in it.

One could say that Sari's anger is only for Rhys breaking ties with the Orakians in general, rather than anything specific to Lena. She's even angry at Ayn on that front, specifically labeling him as a traitor to the Orakians in the Japanese script. Sari seems like a person with a strong sense of national pride, so a son of a royal family betraying his country might not sit well with her even if her mother didn't know him.
