Is it warm in here?

Postby Xander » Fri Sep 3, '10, 7:46 pm

Ok, so time for another original piece. Yay! :D

Anyway, I mostly made it up as I went along. I realised that if I kept going it would end up looking like the full size drawing I did a while ago so I added the wavy hair. Then I realised I had little room for anything else I may have had in mind and so went ahead and tried my hand at drawing in the arm behind the head there. I never knew I'd actually be looking at my own arm is a similar pose in order to get it right.

Anyway, I got it coloured up real nice, though you probably can't tell from the scanned image. I might actually redo this one again once I get my next couple of projects done and out of the way, mainly because drawing the arm 20 times or so marked the paper badly, but also because I feel I could have done better somehow. I can't quite put my finger on it though. Oh well.

Anyway, if I can find some decent references, expect some Alis related art to follow in the same vein next. :)

Ooo...very NICE Xander. The wavy hair works really well in this piece. Me being me, I like to find some small piece of constructive criticism to make, and it's this...her body looks almost TOO narrow, to the point of looking a bit unrealistic. So maybe something to work on in the future. :) That said, the narrow body fits in quite nicely with the style of the piece.

Well, all the more to note when I get round to re-drawing her in future. Thanks. :D

Wow, nicely done Xander. I really like this piece. =D

I've only a few things to say to help you improve AS CW said, the body is too narrow, I also think the head is slightly too big, and the arm behind the head, looks a tiny bit too thin compared to the other. But seriously dude, great job. You are improving immensely as an artist and I feel like I ought to bust out my pencil and paper now. =D

Ok so thick neck, small body, small left arm. I think I just wasn't paying attention most of the time I was sizing it up. My bad. Well at least I have proper grounds for redrawing it now, though I might just do a completely different pose. I'll see how I feel about doing that left arm. :p

I was told the ears are too small somewhere else, but I'm not so sure about that. I think someone's confusing her with Nei. :D

Anyway, thanks guys. :)

Well, I think her ears look fine. Rika's ears are just a lot shorter than Nei's.

If anything Xan, I think her ears could be slightly thicker. Otherwise it's perfectly fine.

Well I'll bear that in mind. I'll see about making a start on the new one today. Come to think of it, their placement doesn't look quite right either. :p
