Corpse Flower

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Thu Aug 5, '10, 5:50 pm

I had never heard of these flowers before reading this:

They should go over very well around Halloween time, don't you think?

I like the idea that a museum of natural science could host a wedding on an average of once a week. Yay for the romantic nature of natural science!

I had no idea that museums were wedding spots, especially on that level of frequency. That's pretty neat.

As for the flower, I don't think it will become popular any time soon. Given that it is so rare and takes so long to blossom after planting, it seems like it would be hard to spread around. Not to mention that most people wouldn't like the smell, especially on a holiday.

Museum weddings and receptions are really popular around here, but then again, I live and work around Wash. DC, which is like the motherload of free museums. If I'd had a proper wedding (my husband and I just did the courthouse thing), I'd strongly consider holding the wedding or reception at the Smithsonian.

Corpse flowers are, according to my friend who lives in California, awful. She inherited one when she bought her house, and couldn't even give it away. They do stink something terrible, she says.
