In the UK, there is a cat who lost part of both his rear legs to an accident. A new type of operation was recently performed to give the cat prosthetic limbs. What's amazing is that this operation involved inserting metal pegs into the cat's legs, something never done before without causing infections around the inserted pieces. Essentially, the operation makes this kitty the world's first cyborg cat. ;)

With prosthetic feet attached to the pegs, the cat, who would have been put down if not for this operation, is now able to walk and run around normally. Have a look at these reports on it:

The same technology is being developed for humans now. This may improve the lives of many people, as well as saving the lives of many animals that would have been put down otherwise.

Remember "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "The Bionic Woman" who had some of their body parts restored due to help with bionics?

Well, now there is Oscar the Cat who is also benefiting from some "bionic" parts...his back feet:

I wonder if there is a tv show in all this somewhere!

Oscar's a cute cat.

Well, that's a first. I don't think we've had two people post the same thing in such a short time span before! I've merged the two topics. :)

Heh, amazing stuff. A bionic cat, or cybercat! :p
I've always had an interest in bionics myself, though I suppose it'll be a while before they miniaturize the technology so, at least for humans, the replacements work as well as the real thing without being all big and chunky. I know I wouldn't mind a bionic arm. Ooh, or maybe a replacement eye that lets me see in the dark and all that jazz! :D Yeah right...
