Hurricane Michael

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Tue Oct 9, '18, 1:11 am

Another Hurricane is heading towards Florida and some of the southern states once again. Michael is a category 1 storm last I heard, but that will probably be changing to a higher category in the next few hours or days.

Keeping an eye on this one!

Yeah, this storm made history in a few ways. For one, it's the only category 4 to hit the Florida panhandle since hurricanes have been recorded starting in the 1850s. It's also the strongest hurricane to make landfall since Andrew in the 1990s, with max sustained winds at 155 at landfall...just barely under category 5 strength. That's pretty incredible, especially this late in hurricane season when things should be starting to wind down.

We're going to be getting this thing tomorrow, though in a much diminished state. We're under a flood watch, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have some tropical storm force winds.

Hurricane Michael has left a lot of damage and destruction all over it's path through Florida and Georgia. Almost unbelievable as you watch the destruction on the news. Homes destroyed, Flooding, major rainfall, produce crops, cotton crops, etc., destroyed in Georgia and several chicken houses among other things.

Heartbreaking!

On a personal note, we got a lot of wind and rain off of this storm. There were tornado warnings close to us but we were safe. Storm is gone from here now leaving much cooler temps. Supposed to get in the 40's early tomorrow morning. Brrrr!

And unfortunately with climate change, we're just going to see more of this.
