Hurricane Harvey is close to probably reaching land somewhere in the area of Texas and the and surrounding areas in the USA. Anyone close to that region should be keeping a close eye on the weather and news reports. Be prepared and Stay safe!

Also there are some concerns that this may effect some of the oil refineries located in Texas somehow, and if that happens it could mean gas price increases in other parts of the USA. So, it might be a good idea to get your tanks filled up now wherever you are located at, if possible. Use your own judgement.

I'd say the potential for rising gas prices pales compared with the immediate impact. It just made landfall as a category 4 storm - which hasn't happened since 2004. Sustained winds at 130 MPH. This storm might drop 50 inches of rain in parts of Texas, and between that, a 12 foot storm surge hitting with high tide and big waves on top of that, a good swath of south Texas is going to be under water and uninhabitable for a while. It's expected to effectively stall out in the area at least through Wednesday, so even after it loses a lot of its strength, it's going to dump a ton of rain well into next week.

This is a hurricane name I expect to be retired after this storm is over.

Harvey has been downgraded to a tropical storm the last I heard. Still very powerful. Lots of damage in Texas.

They always weaken as soon as the eye passes over land. Thing is, so many people think it means it's safe. It's not. This is only started as it's going linger, dump truckloads of rain, and generate massive flooding. And it may drift back out over the gulf, restrengthen, and make a second landfall in Louisiana.

In a hurricane the wind is secondary, yet it's what we base ratings on. It's the water that's the killer.

Alas the rain is the main ennemy/foe in this situation, and will continue to be during some days... :(

Pictures of the flooding are very hard to look at . It's hard to imagine all that happening and yet there are people living through it all. Prayers for them all during this time. Rescue efforts are in full swing with so many having to be rescued from various situations. And many states, including the one where I live, are sending help in various forms such as supplies needed, drinking water, and medical help.

It's apparently now the worst rainstorm and flooding on record in the US. I am inclined to believe that.
