Heat wave in the USA

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Sun Jul 1, '12, 10:00 pm

I love summer, but this is getting ridiculous and dangerous weather for some. I know the temperature mark probably hit over 100 degrees here today, and it's been like that for most of the week now.

Anyone else experiencing some of this HOT, HOT summer weather??

Last heat wave in France (2003) caused the death of around 30000 (no mistake in the number of zeros) persons (old people, mainly). Drink a lot (of water), even if you're not thirsty.

What shocked me the most then, was everyone was so glad to have such a hot summer. It took some weeks to realize it was a drama.

Was hot in Massachusetts before I left to visit family, hot in Pennsylvania too. The nice thing about this heat and humidity though, is that you can get thunderstorms, and I like thunderstorms. At least your average run of the mill storm, not your powerful severe-type storm like the derecho that hit several states late last week.

It was terribly hot over the weekend here. The highs hit around 110 F some days. My A/C was trying to work so hard that I had trouble keeping the power on for a little while. I'm going to hate seeing the electric bill next month.

We did have a short thunderstorm one morning before sunrise, though. That dropped the temperature during the following day by around ten to fifteen degrees, which was nice by comparison.

It's pretty hot over here in Ohio too. Last week I took a walk and when I got back home, I felt like I was going to pass out from the heat (and humidity), but I guess that's just because I forgot to bring water with me :duh:
And I agree with you WB, I like thunderstorms too. For some reason, they help me relax.

Hot here this week...very hot...reaching sometimes in the 100's in the afternoons. Although we've had some brief cooling off periods after the thunderstorms almost every day.

Anyone else love a rain shower on a hot summer day. Not a heavy thunderstorm, mind you, but just a nice peacefull rain shower that cools everything off and some how seems to refresh the earth. Nothing like it. :)
