The goal was to make use of modern design methods while retaining the distinctive 16-bit feel of the original portrait. Textures were created in Photoshop with several layer masks and warp meshes were used to make the fur go in the right direction.

Cramming all the pixels into a bite-sized avatar was a task all by itself.

Seriously, that is a very convincing texture on the cloak and the fur. And Gryz is always awesome!

It's interesting to see some texture added to the character. I always wondered what kind of material might be used to make Motavian clothing. With all the scavenging they do, it would need to be something sturdy. At the same time, it has to be light enough to keep them from getting overheated in the deserts of their planet. Must be hot under all that fur, I would think.
