I know a lot of sci-fi enthusiasts would probably love this story about these giant spiders, but not me, i HATE spiders.

*shivers* If I lived in that town, I'd be moving out of there now.

That's both cool and creepy. I used to be very afraid of spiders, but I have that by doing a little research and finding stuff like this...somehow...helped me get over it.

I am a total arachnophobic. I can't help it; I am terrified of them.

But the world would be a place overtaken by nasty bugs if it weren't for them (and other bug-eaters, such as birds).

Bowen isn't a very developed Australian city its all quite untouched and still lots of bushland so its understandable to me why such large spiders could hide and breed in the scrub near Bowen. I'd say the majority of them would be eaten by birds and snakes however. Trust me on that one

I certainly couldn't deal with that. I'm not squeamish but I grew up in the city so I'm not really prepared to deal with nature coming into my home.

I'd rather having one of those big tarantulas in my home instead of one of those deadly funnel-webs...(it is the funnel web in Australia that's super deadly, right Lucas?)

Yes funnel web spiders are very dangerous. You can tell were they live usually its a big pile of leaves and sticks and its grouped togther with web and looks really messy. I've seen several funnel web nests when I've gone for my walks. If I ever see a funnel web spider I usually crush it with my jogging shoes. Trust me you don't wana take the chance and let one live just encase it runs up your leg and bites you. :blank:

Also redback spiders a very common especially in old Australian houses like our old house, they must be attracted to the wood or something but ever since we've moved houses I've haven't seen a redback since. :relieved:

:yikes: I am horrified of spiders. Needless to say, I would never step foot in Australia or anywhere else that has lots of large spiders.

Yikes... funnel web spiders... if I ever saw one, I'd run so fast you'd think I was trying out for the olympics. :yell:

In Australia, they also have the largest spider in the world - the bird eating one... can't remember the name, but Lucas would know what I'm talking about.

Here in the U.S. we have Black Widow spiders, Hobo spiders, and the Brown Recluse, being among the deadly ones. *shivers*
