Microsoft doubles life cycle of the Xbox 360

Microsoft saying Xbox 360 to remain on the market until the year 2015!

http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6211650/xb ... pan-report

Microsoft had previously slated their systems to only have 5-year life cycles. But in this, the 4th year of the Xbox 360's life, the life span was officially doubled. While not stated, this decision is likely due in part mostly to the current fragile state of the economy.

It seems like a good idea to me. The system still has a lot of potential left in it. There's no need for a new version very soon. These days, systems can last a lot longer than a mere five years. Not only due to the economic situation, but also the sheer power of the systems and the number of new and classic games available for them.

This makes me thankful as I can't imagine buying a brand new system every 5 years. It would get to the point that I would stop buying video games for awhile [gasp! :o ] and start buying just movies or something along those lines. At least I'll be able to get some excellent use out of the 360 especially since I wasn't aboard with it for launch.

Thank god we can get some more use out of the system. New systems pop up so quickly. Most people also don't get these systems until a year or two after it's been out. Well, atleast I can't. I gotta wait until they go down in price.

Yeah, same here. I just got the 360 last year. I would have really hated for it to be rendered obsolete after having it for only one year. :(

It appears that Consoles are starting to become like Computers. It seems that after buying a game system, it's obsolete after only a few years.... :x
