For those not in the know, Mr. Yamauchi was the grandson of the man who originally founded Nintendo back in 1889. He ended up running the company from 1949 to 2002, turning Nintendo from a playing card company into a general toy company, and eventually was the one who made the decision to enter Nintendo into the video game industry, presiding over the company's gaming history all the way from the NES to the Gamecube. Upon his retirement, he refused to accept his $9-$14 million dollar retirement pension, saying that "the company can put it to better use". All first-party releases for Nintendo consoles from 1983 through 1994 had to be personally approved by him, thus making himself, in part, personally responsible for his system's success or failure.

You know, I may not be the biggest fan of Nintendo games, but I have mountains for respect for the integrity which their executives seem to possess.

Examples: Iwata refusing to lay off staff in hard times

Iwata taking a pay cut for the poor initial sales of the 3DS:

Seriously, I don't know where they find these guys, but God bless them.
