I am always wary of Time Travel stories, because they are often crap, but Steins;Gate was masterfully implemented in my opinion, and the endings were so perfectly linked to the storyline and developments that there is nothing to complain about it. Not only that, but the writing is very good, with a great balance of humor, silliness, serious subjects, things to leave you thinking about them, pseudoscience, pop culture elements, etc. The characters are mostly all likable, with different personalities, but each one adding a lot to the game. Even the weirdness has credible reasons for existing, making the experience complete. The way they dealt with time paradoxes was great, especially the way they progress in a lighter mood until things get serious and the characters start seeing how serious are the things they were doing without thinking too much about them.
It was probably one of the best VNs I have ever played, if not the best, and one of the rare occurrences of me getting a platinum trophy (the only other instance was Monster Monpiece). That must have been the choice of the Steins Gate.
The last, but not the least, the girls are great, almost every one is waifu material. The best thing of the game was obviously dat Mayuri, Tutturu!
10/23 - LoveKami -Divinity Stage- (PC)
I had hopes it could be a nice VN, since it is from Pulltop, the same makers of If My Heart Had Wings, which is one of the VNs I'd rank at the same level as Steins;Gate, but I was fooled. It is just a throwaway fanservice VN, where you don't have a compelling story, great characters or complex themes being discussed. It is just a lighthearted story of idols, cliche-ridden, and with an excuse for you to choose one of the girls to romance. The story has only a few interesting moments.
Not that I disapprove fanservice and such, but even in that aspect, the game failed. There are some really bad artwork, which is a big turn-off. Some images are fine, but many of the fanservice ones are not beautiful or sexy, they are deformed instead. That is what happens in a poorly-made fanservice game. Similar to other short fanservice-oriented VNs, it is okay only if you don't have anything better to play.
12/23 - Material Girl (PC)
This game looked shady from the start, but since it cost me something like $1, I decided to give it a chance. Although the first impression was not very good because of the localization (not only poor, but words broken halfway at the end of lines), the game per se is interesting. Despite the subject, it is handled in a nice way, with many different options, including funny and sweet scenes mixed with harsh and depressing ones. For what it is meant to be, it is a pretty interesting title, though only recommended to those who are into that sort of game.
