There are so many PS characters that I would love to cosplay as` Alis (PSI); Amy (PSII); Anna (PSII); Shir (PSII); Maia(PSIII); Thea (PSIII); Alys (PSIV).....*sigh* I generally like the costume design in the PS series.
Yeah. Fabric armor looks limp and shapeless. At the same time, forging metal armor sounds kinda hard. Perhaps there's a middle---have any of you cosplayers considered paper mache? With some work---you can possibly shape and paint it convincingly enough...
Oh don't worry, I have no plans to forge metal. Alis's front plate kind of confuses me, actually. In the original version on the game's box it appears to be cloth, and she's wearing a gold * on top of it. In the actual game, though, she doesn't wear that *. I can't tell if it's cloth, leather, or metal. I'd probably make that part out of close-fitting vinyl, in a manner similar to this pattern (altered to be more of a sleevless turtleneck, of course): http://cgi.ebay.com/ADULT-XENA-ROMAN-GL ... 4cee4e9cd2.
Rick also had a good suggestion to take sports shoulder pads and paint them. It wouldn't really work for Alis, but it's a great idea for any of the caped bad dudes in PS.

I've seen it done at Amtgard.. Someone took football shoulder pads and well seperated them. A little melting of the plastic and cooling it let it take shape. Then they painted it over and adjusted it.
2 front shoulder pads resined together could work.
You can always do cardboard.. the people in these gundam cosplays used a mixture of cardboard and PVC.
