For H-Man - Ri-Ge from Hunter in the Fox's Den

Postby Xander » Wed Sep 22, '10, 3:31 pm

This is a request I got from H-Man recently, though I was thinking of drawing this around that time anyway. :D

The request was to draw Rika as she appears in his fan fiction Hunter in the Fox's Den as Ri-Ge the Fox Spirit. (Hence the odd vaguely fox looking ears) I'm not going to go into detail so go and read the fiction if you want to know more.

Anyway, no much to say except thanks to H-Man for providing me with the references and to those who inspired me to into get drawing in the first place. I never mentioned it before so it's about time. You know who you are. :)

This is my last Rika piece for a while now. Meteor9 don't you even say it. Next up is Amy and maybe a portrait of a support character who I will not reveal here. :p

Anyway, comments, critique, etc. all welcome as usual.

Holy mother of Tinkerbell! Rika (er, Ri Ge) is in top form here! This is one of my favorite of your Rika pieces, Xander!

Wow! I agree with Tanith. This ranks as one of the top 2 pieces you've done of her. Excellent work, Xander.

You know for some reason, I look at this think 'Galadriel's mirror' in Lord of the Rings...you make me think of LotR a lot, Xan. Great piece!

Only criticism I can add is that her close ear could have either been up or a little bit wider. But it looks fine as is. With that I do this.

:-o pretty... amazing... O.O

My fave piece by you yet Xan-Man the Mountain Man.

Yeah, the ears could have been better for sure, but I wasn't sure quite how to pull it off. They all looked so strange.

Anyway, glad you liked it you guys. I know I'm pleased with it for sure. Composure and form have all gone pretty well and while I didn't get a proper background in, not that I could have done much at this perspective, everything seems to be ok. The reflections on the water were an afterthough, but it seems to have turned out alright.

There might not be a background but it works. Honestly, I think it looks great as is.

The thing is, all I could have put in was just the ground, which would have looked pretty crappy anyway. If I had gone with my first idea, to draw it from a normal point of view, then no problem, but it would have meant running down a lot of my coloured pencils to fill in more space. >< So I settled for drawing the moon into the reflection in the pool. :p

I am seriously going to sign up for some evening lessons using photoshop or whatever next year. I would love to learn how to CG colour my work.

Anyway, job done. H-Man is happy and he even wasnts it for his wallpaper now. :)
