McD's recalls glasses

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Sun Jun 6, '10, 12:14 am

McDonald's are recalling some 12 Million Shrek drinking glasses that they were selling in one of their promotions to celebrate the new movie out in theatres:

Anybody have any of these?

Yeah, we have a few in our house. We already found out about the glasses and as soon as we know where to take them, we're returning them. We only needed Donkey too before we had all four... >.>

IT's kind of a shame. The glasses were a decent size for fitting liquids in to drink.

I didn't even know they had them. It's been a month or so since I went near a McDonald's. It's interesting that, unlike most other recent incidents when something has been recalled due to toxic paint, these items were manufactured in the USA. This time it's not a foreign company based in China, so lawyers and lawmakers can target this manufacturer with some hefty punishment.

I don't think I have heard that sentiment spoken or expressed very often, especially by those living in America. Most Americans would rather buy American Made products if possible than buy from somewhere else. However, it is a shame that it seems these days you can't buy very good quality products from almost anywhere in the entire world. Just look at all the recalled products made in China and other countries that we have heard about in recent years.

Beginning today (Wednesday, June 9), McD's is giving $3.00 refunds for the recalled Shrek glasses:

Found an interesting article about lead and other toxic metals being found in drinking glasses, etc.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40309111/ns ... ?GT1=43001

Does this worry anyone else? I think we have some old McDonald's glasses around that we got at McD's during some of these promotions, etc. I'm almost positive we've drunk out of some of them at one time or another. Should we be scared we have toxic metals in our system???

Now I'm a bit concerned. I have some of the Return of the Jedi glasses mentioned in that article. I don't drink out of them, but I do handle them on occasion to move them around. The real concern seems to be that just touching the designs can cause lead to migrate from the designs to one's hands, and from there into one's food or mouth.

I'd be curious to know exactly which glasses were tested in this. I mean, they mention Superman glasses. There are probably more than twenty different kinds of Superman glasses, so that doesn't really help anyone looking to know which glasses might be unsafe.
