Juneteenth is usually celebrated in the USA on June 19th to commemmorate the end of slavery, and it is also known as "Emancipation Day". It is not an official federal holiday, but is a very important day nonetheless.

I have to say, that strikes me as a silly name. "Juneteenth," I mean. It sounds like a name that could apply to any day in the middle week of the month.

I was reading there is now some talk of making Juneteenth a National Federal Holiday in the USA. It may take awhile for it to happen if indeed it does, so we shall see what lies ahead.

Some places of business, etc., in our area were already closing for this day.
