Official first day of winter here in the USA, today, Wednesday, December 21, 2016!

Funny though, because today is the warmest day we have had here all week!!! :lol:

Thursday, December 21, 2017 and today is the first day of winter season here in the USA. It is also the shortest day of the year for us and the longest night. After today the days will slowly begin getting a bit longer each day.

It has been a medium day here today so far, not really cold and not really all that warm either. Rain moving in tomorrow for the next few days and then colder temps for Christmas Day, but probably no snow.

Time to say farewell to Winter here in the USA as today, Monday, March 19th, 2018 is the last day of Winter. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looking forward to Spring tomorrow although I am sure we will still have a few chilly days yet.

Looks at the winter storm warning that starts tomorrow.

Always remember, spring is a time of gradual transition, not an instant switch to weather most people consider pleasant. Just because winter is over (again, those labels I mentioned in another post that are essentially arbitrary and human made) does not mean winter weather is over, particularly in New England. It's a slow longer term (over the weeks) trend towards warmer weather, not an instant switch. It is a known phenomenon that winter storms actually tend to happen most often at the end of winter, and it's as because as spring approaches, warm air is trying to move back in, and it's where the two mix that you get the turbulent weather.

Don't put your winter gear away just yet, because mother nature doesn't care about our labels.

Quite agree. Even though it is now officially Spring, it does not mean that winter weather is over, and probably won't be for a good while. Although I hope we do have some warmer days and temps as time goes on. Pretty day here today although we had a rough night last night with rain, hail, thunderstorms, tornado warnings, etc. It is to be expected this time of year though because as Wolf Bird mentioned above the warmer air and the colder air are still meeting and fighting it out, so to speak.

Friday, December 21, 2018 is the official First Day Of Winter here in the USA! Supposed to be the shortest day of the year. After that day each day supposedly gets a little longer in time. Even though it is still Fall, we have had some very cold weather already, but several warm days also.
