Ending - Hugh

With the final battle at hand, Hugh, the biologist who believes every creature has a right to life, learns a harsh lesson. "You have shown me the ugliness of continued existence." Perhaps Hugh has come to realize that eventually, all things must pass away. The Earthmen prolonged their life and civilization, but at the cost of becoming terrible monsters.

Amy: (bitterly) Shir somehow managed to convince him that it would make his techniques more effective.

Earthman: (holding Amy back with his hand while she swings at him uselessly with her Fire Staves) A mulligan? This is madness.
