Although all these events are celebrated as
"unofficial" holidays, September 1 is a day to honor the following people and occasions:
(1)Emma Nutt Day: Emma Mills Nutt was the first female telephone operator. She was born in 1860 and became a telephone operator on September 1, 1878 in Boston, Massachusetts. You can find out more about her at the following link:

Hard to think there are some words that fit in this type category, however, the list may include such words as the following: orange, silver, purple, month, rhythm, false, husband, wasp, wolf, bulb, and many more.
(3)National Chicken Boy Day is also on September 1 which recognizes an iconic California landmark statue:
