June 6th will be the anniversary of D-Day. Although not an official holiday, it is a day celebrated and remembered by many. President Obama has gone to France now, I think, to honor those Americans and others who served and died there during World War 2, etc.
I always remember D-Day and the great sacrifices that were given that day. One of the reasons for me to remember it is because I have family members that were involved in the Normandy war efforts, although they have passed away now, but their heroic efforts will never pass from my mind. As we should all remember each and every one that took part in this very historic day.
Sadly, I read elsewhere online that President Obama chose not to mark the day with any celebration or ceremonies of any type, as he has for the past year or so, since 2009. I really do not understand this President at all. To me this is not the way a President of this country should act.
Yes, Obama did go to France several years ago in 2009, as I mentioned in a post up above. Other US Presidents have been to France at various times also to be on hand at that historic site to mark the importance of this special day. Here's a link of President Ronald Reagan's visit to France on the 40th Anniversary of D-Day in 1984:
I really have to applaud President Clinton as I read that he never missed paying tribute by attending Memorial Day services the entire time he was in office.
Also, some Presidents have probably been unable to participate in D-Day ceremonies due to some previous engagements, health issues, or other matters and have had their Vice-Presidents fill in for them, so to speak, at various ceremonies and celebrations.
Other Presidents, it seems, have just chosen not to participate in such ceremonies for whatever reason and do other things during that day. To me, that is shameful behaviour, especially considering the President is the leader of the Country and leader of the Armed Forces!!!! JMHO.
Sabaton's song Primo Victoria is actually about D-Day. So I'm just going to leave that song's music video here in a (day late) acknowledgement of the anniversary.
Edit again: Never mind, found a better video that's not bloody and is just historical footage. However, the song does contain the word 'hell' a few times in a metaphorical sense.

D Day on the 6th june is always interesting as my study was tied to history (I'm actually reading a huge book about first and Second World War, in a collection named New French History
Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 6, 2013 is the 69th anniversary of D-Day! Remembering this occassion and all it stands for. And, I think I'll give a glance again at the video Wolf Bird posted above of Sabaton and their song for this occassion, etc.
