New Year's Day dinner

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Tue Dec 30, '08, 11:37 pm

Got your fixin's for New Year's Day dinner yet?

Remember it is supposed to bring good luck for the coming year if you eat certain special foods on New Year's day.

I already have my blackeye-peas, and my turnip greens, and I just have to get a few more things ready to be able to cook new year's day dinner.

It is supposed to be good luck to eat hog jowls, but ain't no way I'm eating that. :yuck: :yuck: I'll probaby replace it with ham or another meat item.

How about you - what are you having for New Year's Day dinner?

Eh, I just eat normal stuff. I don't believe in any of the superstitions about eating different foods on that day.

Bumping this thread up as it is another New year and time for another New Year's Day dinner!

So, what's everyone having for New Year's Day dinner today?

I've already had an early New Year's Day lunch/dinner and we had Black-Eye Peas, Turnip Greens, Corn, Macaroni & Cheese, Baked Barbecued Chicken, and some Dressing, and iced Tea! Will probably have the same for a late supper later on this evening, lol.

The Turnip Greens and Black-Eye Peas are a tradition on New Year's and supposed to be for luck, etc. I hope it works. :p

What are you eating today? :burp:

Well the night before my wife and I had pizza, but shamefully neither of us recall what we had on Friday night! :D The sad thing is, neither of us went to a big party or had anything to drink...I guess we're just too forgetful, lol.

It's almost time for another New Year and time to bump this topic up once again.

What are you having for dinner on New Year's Day?

Are you having a traditional New Year's Day dinner with the traditional "good luck" foods?

Or just having a regular dinner?

I'm not exactly sure what we are having yet as we may go to a relative's house for dinner but I'm sure there will probably be some black-eye peas and greens wherever we eat!

However, I hope they have some fried chicken or some other meat because I'm still not eating any hogs jowl - no way!!! . :silly:
