Competitive gaming

Has you ever taken part in competitive video gaming events where you played against others for a prize? If so, did you win anything?

It seems like everyone may have a chance to get into competitive gaming soon. Virigin Gaming is planning to start tournaments based on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. According to that article, these tournaments can be played from home. Some people are deriding the idea as gambling, though.

What do you think? Would you participate in a gaming tournament for cash prizes if you could do so without leaving your own home?

I've played competitively, but there was no prize involved. I placed second in a Brawl tournament as Ness when I went to Setsucon back in January. It was all for fun..and great fun it was.
Next Pokemon game(s): Pearl
Last finished Pokémon game: Shield
Other games: Skyrim Special Edition (Switch), Spyro Reignited Trilogy (Switch & PS4), Okami (Switch & PS4)
Other gaming goals: completing a Living Pokedex (minus some event Pokes) and going through at least 1 game per generation
