Jan Berenstain who helped to co-author the popular Berenstain Bears series of books for young children has died at the age of 88:

The books were not favorites of mine, but I know many people everywhere loved them...especially children.

I remember seeing the books all over the library during the summer reading programs as a kid. I was never a fan and usually didn't go for these books, but I imagine they helped a lot of young kids learn to read.
