Phantasy Star IV Wii changes

Postby Thoul » Wed Jun 17, '09, 5:06 am

Most of you have probably heard of the infamous glitch in Phantasy Star IV that messes up characters' stats when they reach level 99. It was fixed on the Phantasy Star Complete Collection version of the game. Well, some folks over at GameFAQs have been looking into the Wii version and discovered that it also has this bug fixed!

Apparently there are also some changes to color effects in some attacks and boss animations, probably to reduce chances of seizures. Nintendo has had a lot of problems in that area, after all.

All this makes me wonder if there are any similar changes to PS II or III.

I know the Green Cross that represented hospitals in PSII were changed to green Hs, but I think I mentioned that before.

The PSIII online manual calls the Fanbi Technique "Fandi" and PSIV's online manual calls Hinas "Hinus," but they do a very good job explaining exactly what the Techniques do.

PSIV's online manual also (correctly) says there are fourteen Collabos.

Hello.

I've been able to reproduce the VC version's bugfixes on a plain old PS4 ROM on my PC. You can find patches for it here:

http://www.sixfortyfive.com/ps4patch/

Check ps4patch.txt for instructions.

I've tested the JP version, and it seems to work perfectly. I haven't finished testing the US version yet, but so far everything looks in order.

Indeed, there are also patch files for PSII and PSIII. I've uploaded them here:

http://www.sixfortyfive.com/vc/

PSII seems to have a checksum fix and some graphics edits. PSIII seems to have a minor game over bug fix for the JP version and some sort of graphic edit for the US/PAL version. I don't plan on testing either of them.

Thanks for taking the time to look into those. :) It looks like they had to make a lot of graphic edits in PSIII. I was hoping for something more, but at least now we know for sure.

I agree. I always beat the game way before reaching Level 99. Still, for those who do like getting up to such a high level, it's nice to know they fixed it but kind of sad at the same time.
