Cartridges

Postby Fogeltje » Sun Sep 30, '07, 10:34 pm

I was wondering about the original gamecartridges with their batteries. It's obvious those batteries don't have eternal life. My brother and I were wonder if they perhaps recharge a bit while you play the game.

I never heard about that before but I was wondering about that. I still dread the day when I find out the batteries of my old Sega games have died. I know, there's emulators with as many save slots as you want (but even that sucks since not all emulators have compatible savegames, my old kgen98 don't work with Fusion) but it's still not the same. Besides, I would have to replay the games completely to get to the states I'm in on the cartridges.

And in so saying, Nei silently closed her eyes.

I haven't tried mine out, but it's an interesting question. I wonder just how long they last? I saw over on gamefaqs people talking about battery replacement in some old titles, but I didn't read the whole thread.

I haven't had any problems with the batteries dying...the main problem is the batteries coming loose for me. o_O It's happened to my brother's PSIII and PSIV carts...I replaced the PSIV game myself (had to buy a new one, was lucky to have found it!), but he managed to fix the PSIII battery after using various tools and trying to get the thing open.

So now I'm paranoid of something else going wrong with the PSIII battery... It's my favorite game, so I'd be disappointed if something happened. On the other hand, PS games on eBay tend to be relatively cheap.

As far as I know they don't, but I suppose it's possible. If these carts are anything like the NES carts, a special tool exists for open them to replace the battery. Of course, removing the battery to replace it probably erases the saves.
