And though announced long before the recent announcement of Sailor Moon remastered, I feel this has fallen into Sailor Moon's shadow.

Next month NIS America will be releasing the digitially remastered Cardcaptor Sakura, aka Cardcaptors, on DVD and Blu-Ray. Sadly, the English language track did not receive an upgrade and will be in the monaural that it was when broadcast here in the late 90's and is essentially being tacked on as an extra feature.

Cardcaptor Sakura is already available for pre-order, and will otherwise be available for purchase on August 5th.

Official NIS Trailer:

I gather from that trailer that, like with Sailor Moon's re-release, we will not be getting the North American TV intro... enjoy it anyways.:

It's the nineties all over again and the ladies of anime are returning folks. Now just got to wait for Funimation to announce the re-release date for Escaflowne.

Why am I just hearing about this now? I remember loving this cartoon growing up. Don't remember much of it though so I guess this was a good time for them to remaster it.

8 Years Later...

Got the NISA release of Cardcaptors at long last back in January of this year (2022), and they completely redubbed the series. The old English dub is not on the discs at all, and it actually makes sense considerning the episode are now "uncut", meaning there would have been segments cut from the American broadcast dub that as result never got dubbed and thus the old dub simply wouldn't fit the episodes anymore. It was just as jarring to watch this with the new dubb as it was to watch Sailor Moon with its' new dubb. Most of the humor of the series that only existed as a byproduct of the American edit and dubb has been forever lost. Character names are now the original Japanese names which was also a bit difficult to wrap my brain around.
