Capcom has ended their defense force that stops a potential takeover of their company via majority stock purchases. Maybe this will be the year that Capcom gets purchased by another company.

Well. While I knew Capcom was having a lot of trouble, can't say I expected it to get this bad.

Oh wow, sorry to hear that they are having such bad troubles. Thanks for posting the article. On the other hand, with so many popular titles, etc., this seems like it would be a gold mine for any possible buyers, etc.

Yeah Capcom has a lot of well known franchises. One of the big three companies purchasing them could be a huge event in the history of gaming.

I just hope Sega doesn't try to get them. I'd rather see Nintendo or one of the other Big 3 buy out Capcom.

I'd be shocked if Sega even had the financial clout to even buy another gaming company.

Or who knows, maybe rumors will circulate that Apple will buy the company to support their supposed gaming console.

I hope Nintendo gets Mega Man, and gets Inafune back on that one, but Street Fighter and some of their other franchises seem more suitable to other companies. I just pray someone gets Breath of Fire and does something with it, that would be awesome.

Won't be Nintendo, they've been bleeding to much money as of late trying to keep the Wii U afloat. Sony is also in a financial bind, so they're also out of the running. And Sega Sammy just spent all that money buying out Index Corporation (Atlus), so not likely they'd be able to coff up the billions needed to buy out Capcom this soon.

Likely candidates to buy Capcom:
- SNK Playmore
- EA
- Microsoft
- Disney

And the ones I consider less likely, but not able to be ruled out are:
- Apple
- B&N/GameStop
- FaceBook
- Google

I don't know about that. Sega Sammy Holdings (Sega's parent company) is huge. You'd be surprised just how big they are if you look over their Wikipedia page. They are a true Japanese megacorp. Hell, then even own something like 14% of Hello Kitty (talk about a cash cow right there). They probably could easily afford to purchase Capcom if they so chose.

Yeah, Sega has more financial backing than you might think. They would need it to be able to buy Atlas like they did. Let's face it - Sega isn't a major gaming player any more, so to accomplish a purchase like that, their parent company has to be coughing up for it.

I wouldn't mind Microsoft, they'd at least use the IPs well. Disney wouldn't be much of a surprise - it would certainly lead to more Marvel vs. Capcom games, that's for sure.
