Several States in the US have had an ecoli outbreak and the source may have been traced back to cake mix / raw cake batter:

I remember when I was very small it was always the most fun to lick the bowl and eat the leftover cake mix batter when we cooked a cake. It never seemed to bother us then. However, times have changed and you simply cannot do that any more without getting sick it seems.
Be careful everyone. Wait until the Cake has fully cooked before you eat it!!
