Old Gaming Commercials

Remembering the games of yesteryear.

Old Gaming Commercials

Are simply epic. Let's just look at a few here now shall we?

Super Mario All-Stars

Sonic The Hedgehog

Super C (Super Contra)

Super Mario World

Final Fantasy 2

I just chose random commercials. Hence why there are a lot of SNES commercials. But yeah, any other old school commercials you can provide and add to this topic? Also, what do you think of gaming commercials from back then, compared to now?

I loved how back in those days the commercials never really showed any of the gameplay.

Wow, trip down memory lane, there. I remember the Sonic one, Super Mario World (I think there were a couple of commercials for that game, actually) and FF2. I honestly can't recall the last time I saw a newer game commercial. I use DVR for the 1.5 shows I actually watch on TV, so I don't see many televised commercials these days. It was probably for... Halo or some other FPS I have no interest in.

Kaloes brings up a good point about the older commercials not showing much of the actual gameplay. Good reason, too, but it makes the older commercials much more creative, I think.

Now that I think about it, I believe there was a Star Fox commercial and possibly an Earthworm Jim one, too. If you want to go way back, Atari had some interesting commercials. Berzerk, Pole Position, uhh... some others...

I have a horrible memory for game commercials. I don't remember seeing any of these back in the day. Maybe I just tuned out commercials for the most part.

I guess back then the companies were more interested in just putting out the word about their games. Most kid gamers probably got one of the gaming magazines fairly regularly, so the gameplay was covered by that.

Those are some great commercials, etc. I don't remember seeing any of those either, but that doesn't mean I didn't see them, just that I don't remember it. It's been awhile, you know.
