Black Cat Day, Black Cats and Halloween

Everyone has probably heard of and knows the relationship of Black Cats and Halloween. Black cats are beautiful animals and very loving creatures.

However, what I want to warn everyone of is that not all people think so. Some people can be cruel and mean on any occasion and especially on this Halloween holiday. So if you have a black cat, PLEASE make sure they are safe on this upcoming holiday and bring them inside if you can or find them a safe shelter until the holiday is over.

I have several black cats, both inside cats and outside cats and I will be making sure they are safe and cared for during this time, if at all possible. One cat is an outside cat that is a little wild and I am worried I won't be able to get her shelter but she takes care of herself mostly. We are lucky enough to live out in the country also and have a large yard and have almost no trick or treaters anymore as everyone hits the city lights, etc., so I pray she will be alright.

Please, just a reminder to take care of your fur babies and keep them safe.

This is actually why I hate superstitions like this. There are really people out there who associate black cats with bad things, and as such treat them badly, even though it's utter nonsense. I recall even reading statistics somewhere, probably from the Humane Society or a similar organization (I'd look for them but I can't right now), that because of the stigma, black cats are among the hardest to get people to adopt and have low rates of adoption compared to their counterparts with different fur color. Probably the only cats that are harder to get people to adopt are those with long-term illness such as leukemia, which does require special care from the owner, and FIV, which is not so much (for note, our tortie Tango is FIV+). But a stigma is a stigma, and those things can affect people's decision making.

I grew up with a black cat and one of my parents two cats is a half-Siamese with black shiny silky fur. She's a gorgeous, intelligent and loving cat.
