Bird Drawing - Indigo Bunting

Since this is one I'll be giving away as a holiday gift to someone (haven't decided yet, though...) you get to the be the first ones to see this one, since I won't be uploading it to facebook yet for the aforementioned reason. So anyway, this is an Indigo Bunting, a very small and pretty bird, IMO. They get their name from the fact that they are...well...mostly indigo/blue in color, though that only applies to the males, and the females are much more drab. Most of this is oil pastel, except the wings, the tail and the twig. Mostly happy with it.

Very beautiful bird and a terrific drawing! The blue is very striking and makes it easier for me to catch a glimpse of these birds whenever they are in our area. Fascinating!!!

Good luck finding one! They're tiny, seasonal (they migrate out of the US during the winter) and they have a habit of finding a perch deep in foliage. They usually don't sit out in the open, they aren't really a backyard bird, as it were. I've only seen 2 or 3 in my career as a hobbyist birdwatcher. But when you see one, it's a great sighting!
