Ash Wednesday begins today (Feb. 22, 2012).

Interesting tidbit in that in Ireland, Ash Wednesday is also " No Smoking Day".

Also, it's only about 46 days from Ash Wednesday until Easter!

Ash Wednesday began today, Wednesday, February 17, 2021. If I am corrret, then I think it is 40 days or so until Easter this year.

Happy Ash Wednesday to all who celebrate this occasion.

Update 2/23/2021:

Forgot to mention that the religious celebration of Lent also began on Wednesday, February 17 and will go through Saturday, April 03.
