Ambition of the Illuminus

It looks like this expansion to Phantasy Star Universe may be the next Phantasy Star released. Is anyone looking forward to getting this? Here are some of the highlights announced so far:
Illuminus Info wrote:
  • Expanded character customization. Players get many more options to customize facial features, hair styles, body types, color palette, and clothing options.
  • Enriched player-to-player interaction. New lobbies, including the Casino Voloyal which features games like roulette and slots, provide more social experiences for players.
  • New weapons, combat abilities and classes heighten the intensity of real-time battles. With additional weapons types and new special fighting abilities, such as SUV-weapons, Photon Arts, and all new classes, players will have more ways to expand or specialize the character's role within the Universe.
  • New levels, enemies and bosses. With new areas to explore, such as the ruins of Old Rozenom City and the Granigs Mine, and new enemy types including new bosses, players face brand new challenges in all-new environments.
  • The user’s personal avatar is the star. In Phantasy Star Universe, players experienced the Universe through the eyes of Ethan Waber. Now they navigate the missions using their own customized avatar, working to restore peace in the Gurhal System.

I'm not much for online games, but the casino sounds interesting even to me. It might be nice to play poker or something like that with other fans in a Phantasy Star setting.

I guess... I'm hoping it has a little more depth than the current one though. Offline mode is seriously lacking.

I think I will wait on playing PSU until this comes out. If they do the same things they did with PSO, it will include the whole of the first game - I don't want to buy the game twice or whatever.

I don't know, though... from what I've heard some people saying, there might not be an offline mode at all in this. That may have just been idle chatter, though. Hopefully more info about the game will be available soon.

Really? No offline mode would be terrible... I definitely wouldn't buy it, if that were the case. Hopefully they'll continue to have offline, even if it's not up to par with other games.

I noticed recently that Amazon.com is accepting pre-orders for the expansion. They have a release date of November 20 listed, but the official site still doesn't have any additional information.

There's an offline mode, that's what's being referred to in the last bullet point.

Oh, so this Waber kid was only played in the offline mode before? If they're allowing to replace him with a created character, that makes sense that there will be an offline mode. I'm glad that got cleared up.

There are reports that this game will be on display at Tokyo Game Show 2007, at the end of this month. We'll probably hear more new information about it after that.

Well in standard PSU, there's Story Mode, Extra Mode, and Network Mode. Network mode is on-line of course. Story Mode is the main plot where you play as Ethan Waber. You can play Extra Mode after you first complete Chapter 4 in Story Mode, but you have to play more of the main plot to get new content in Extra Mode. You can build up your own off-line character in Extra Mode.

In Illusion though you get to play as your own character from the start of Story Mode though.
